Kmart Closings: Fredericksburg-Area Store Among Casualties
The store, at Spotsylvania Crossing Crossing Shopping Center, is one of 108 stores nationwide being shuttered by Sears Holdings.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Kmart at 3655 Plank Road will close this spring, one of the 150 casualties of Sears Holdings' decision to shutter Kmart stores and Sears stores across the country.
The Spotsylvania Crossing Center store has operated there since the late 80s.
Not affected was the Sears at Spotsylvania Towne Center.

". . .Many of these stores have struggled with their financial performance for years, and we have kept them open to maintain local jobs and in the hopes that they would turn around," the company said in a statement. "But in order to meet our objective of returning to profitability, we have to make tough decision and will continue to do so. . ."
The company said eligible associates will receive severance pay.
