Labor Day 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Fredericksburg

Train routes, schools and government offices will be impacted by the 2019 Labor Day holiday weekend in and around Fredericksburg.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Labor Day represents one of the busier weekends of the summer, if not the entire year. It's one final chance for tourists to fill up the coffers, from the Outer Banks in North Carolina to Ocean City in Maryland. But for city and county governments, schools, and some businesses, Labor Day is a chance to hit the pause button.

Here are the openings and closings to know for Labor Day weekend in Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg City Offices: All Fredericksburg city offices will be closed Sept. 2.

Fredericksburg City Schools: Schools will be closed Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

Stafford County Schools: Schools will be closed Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

Spotsylvania County Schools: Schools will be closed Sept. 2.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Sept. 2. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Sept. 2.

Post Offices: Closed on Sept. 2.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Fredericksburg Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St., and the Fredericksburg Area Museum, 907 Princess Anne St., both will be open.

Pools: College Heights Pool in Fredericksburg is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Doris E. Buffett Pool is open 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Labor Day is the final day of business this season for both pools.

Libraries: All branches of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library will be closed Sunday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 2.

Grocery Stores: Wegman's will be open 6 a.m. to midnight Sept. 2, and the pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walmart and Target will be open regular store hours, and Giant Food will be open 6 a.m. to midnight.

Trash Collection: Curbside trash/recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday.

Recycling/Landfill: The Belman Roan Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be closed Monday, Sep. 2. Both will resume normal operations Tuesday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
