LOCAL ASPHALT SEALCOATING COMPANY COMES TO THE RESCUE OF MAN SCAMMED BY THIEVES
Stafford, Va. (September 8, 2015) – Late last winter, an elderly Stafford County man was scammed and robbed by two men who appeared at his door, offering to sealcoat his driveway.
They offered to charge him $29 per gallon of sealant, but later claimed to have used 100 gallons, bringing the job total to $2,900. The victim told the men he did not have that much money, and gave them an undisclosed amount of cash. One of the men grabbed the victim’s wallet and took all of his money before throwing the wallet at him.

One of the men also forced the victim outside while the other thief went into the victim’s home. It is not known if anything in the home was stolen. The victim reported the theft to the police, and upon inspection by a deputy, the driveway appeared to have only been sprayed in a few spots. The thieves have not been caught, and the stress of the situation was enough to put the victim, who is on oxygen, in the hospital.
But the story doesn’t end there; Tom Corvetti, owner of Black Dawg Sealcoat® in Fredericksburg read about the scam in The Free Lance-Star and was incensed. “People who take advantage of others put such a black mark on the asphalt and sealcoating industry,” said Corvetti. “My heart went out to this man and I knew that Black Dawg needed to take care of the situation by giving back to our community.”

Corvetti contacted the victim in March before the start of the spring season and offered to finish the sealcoating job at no charge in the summer months. The victim, understandably surprised and grateful, accepted the Good Samaritan’s offer, and his driveway was completed in August.
Corvetti also teamed up with Chris Guida, owner of C.C.S. Power Washing. Guida volunteered to wash the oil-based product from the victim’s driveway in order to properly prepare it for sealcoating.
“There’s been enough bad news in the world lately,” said Corvetti. “It’s time we all look for ways to help our fellow neighbor and do the right thing.”
