The chase continued onto I-95 northbound. Deputies attempted to conduct a rolling roadblock to stop the vehicle at mile marker 146. Campbell's vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high speed and made contact with a sheriff's deputy cruiser, causing it to become partially disabled.

A sergeant in the sheriff's office took over the pursuit and followed Campbell's vehicle into Prince William County. At mile marker 150, he conducted a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver, which caused the suspect's vehicle to swerve and strike a jersey wall.
