Man Charged With Killing Foster Son To Make Plea Today: Media Report

Baby boy, 12 months old, died Feb. 1 in Richmond after being airlifted from local hospital.

A Stafford County man charged with killing his foster son is expected to enter a plea to the charges today, a Washington TV station reported.

David John Marcussen, 33, of 635 Village Parkway, has been indicted by a Stafford grand jury for murder, child neglect and other charges stemming from the death of Ka’ron Mason, a 12-month-old baby boy who died Feb. 1 in a Richmond hospital. The child reportedly suffered serious burns when Marcussen gave him a scalding hot bath on New Year’s Day.

Ka’ron was brought to a local hospital with burns to his face, torso and neck, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. He was then airlifted to the burn unit at the MCV Hospital in Richmond.

Marcussen has been charged with one count of felony murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of cruelty to children and one count of child neglect. He is expected to make the plea to the charges today in the Stafford County Circuit Court, according to WUSA-TV Channel 9

He was released from jail on a $75,000 bond on April 23. Marcussen was ordered not to have contact with any children other than his own two children, and that contact is supervised.
