Man Killed After Firing at Deputies: Stafford Sheriff's Office
Deputies responding to a crash scene found the man nearby when he opened fired, according to Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

STAFFORD, VA — A man was shot and killed early Monday morning after exchanging gunfire with deputies on the northbound side of Cool Springs Road, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
Police did not release the man's identity, describing him only as a 65-year-old white male.
No officers were injured in the incident.

Police were called to the scene regarding a car crash on Cool Springs Road near Kings Highway. The caller said a vehicle had been traveling south at a high rate of speed before jumping the median and coming to a stop on the side of the road.
After arriving at the scene, police found the vehicle empty, but soon noticed a man holding a handgun standing on the side of the road. The man reportedly fired at the deputies, who returned fire, killing him, according to a Sheriff's Office statement.

The man was pronounced dead at Mary Washington Hospital.
