Mary Washington Healthcare Announces New CEO

Mary Washington Healthcare Board of Trustees announced today the selection of the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael McDermott, MD.

“After a nine-month thorough search process, we’re pleased to introduce Dr. McDermott as the incoming CEO of Mary Washington Healthcare,” says John F. Fick, III, chairman of the Mary Washington Healthcare Board of Trustees. “Dr. McDermott brings strong knowledge of our organization, and a great passion for the health of our community. We look forward to continuing to build a strong and independent health system to serve the people of our region with Dr. McDermott at the helm.”

Dr. McDermott will begin a transition period until January 1, 2015, when he will officially replace Fred Rankin, who is retiring.

“While we’re excited to have Dr. McDermott on board to help continue to move Mary Washington Healthcare in a positive direction, we’d also like to acknowledge the great work of Fred Rankin during his tenure. Under Fred’s leadership, we’ve remained ever committed to a noble mission, providing excellent healthcare for the citizens of our region regardless of ability to pay. And, through increasing grants from our Foundations, we’ve supported community organizations with more than $12 million in grant funding. We will continue to be committed to these ideals in the years to come.”

Dr. McDermott is currently a radiologist with the Radiologic Associates of Fredericksburg. He received his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He did his residency and fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. He is Board Certified in Diagnostic and Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Dr. McDermott has practiced medicine in the Fredericksburg region since joining the Radiologic Associates of Fredericksburg in 1997. He has served as the Medical Director of Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg since 2008. He has been honored as a Top Doctor in Northern Virginia Magazine in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
