Nowadays, it is a common tradition to set New Year’s resolutions. As an Ahmadi Muslim, I would like to share the goals I have set for 2018.
True Islam teaches that the ultimate aim of our life is to get closer to God. The Holy Qur’an states, “Those who remember God while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and ponder over the creation of the heavens and the earth...” (3:192). Praying and worshiping God is one of the most essential thingsto do for me to gain nearness to Him. The Holy Qur’an reminds that “Aye! It is the remembrance of God that hearts can find comfort” (13:29). Love of God is the key to our success in this life and hereafter.
Remembering God is not about always asking Him for something or being ungrateful for what we don’t have. Instead we should be thanking Him for everything we have.

My other major goal for 2018 would be, loving those who are less fortunate and helping them in every possible way. I want to focus on thanking people around for their love, support, and their presence in my life. The founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (peace be on him) said, “The teachings of the Holy Qur’an can be divided into two major categories; the first being unity of God, love and obedience to Him. The second is to treat kindly your brothers and fellow beings… be kind and merciful to humanity…always work for the good of mankind.”
In order to have a life of contentment, we should not compare ourselves with people who have more than us instead we should look towards those who are less fortunate.

May God Almighty enable us to spend our lives with satisfaction, happiness and under His love. Amen.
