'Open For Business As Usual' Campaign Planned During Bridge Work
The city of Fredericksburg has a plan to let visitors know the downtown will be open for business during the Chatham Bridge renovation.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — From maps to social media campaigns, Fredericksburg officials are planning multiple ways to let visitors know that downtown businesses will be open as usual during the 16-month renovation of the Chatham Bridge. According to the City of Fredericksburg's website, a campaign will launch in early 2020 to inform those who work in, live in and visit downtown how the bridge closure starting in May 2020 might affect the area.
Public information will include online and printed maps for the detour, parking and alternate routes, and residents can sign up for informational alerts. As part of this campaign, the city will work with Fredericksburg VA Main Street, Inc. to plan promotions such as scavenger hunts and “find the mascot” campaigns to raise awareness about the ease of getting around downtown and the parking options that will be available throughout construction, according to a news release.
Additionally, the city is coordinating with VDOT on maps and signs advertising the detour route. These coordinated efforts will seek to encourage everyone who frequents downtown to share the “open for business as usual” message throughout the bridge renovation.
