Mother’s Day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. People celebrate this by giving gifts and flowers to their mothers. Some people give their mothers a day off from work/house chores so they can celebrate a full day that is dedicated to them.
The status of mothers is very high all over the world bearing the fact how mothers bring children into this world, look after them, nourish them, and play the most essential role in making them a good human being. Being an Ahmadi Muslim I will briefly talk about the status of mothers according to Islamic teachings . Islam teaches us that Paradise lies under the feet of mothers. Furthermore, God says in the Holy Qur’an, "Worship none but Him, and show kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with thee, never say unto them any word expressive of disgust nor reproach them, but address them with excellent speech. And lower to them the wing of humility out of tenderness. And say, 'My Lord, have mercy on them even as they nourished me in my childhood” (17:24-25).
After the Almighty God, we all should prioritize our parents over everything in our life through our attitude of love, affection and kindness. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him) is a role model for Muslims and we Ahmadi Muslims follow his teachings and footsteps. Following is one of the many incidents of his life where he emphasized the importance of mother. "A man approached the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and enquired, 'O Prophet of God! Who deserves the best treatment?" The Holy Prophet replied, 'Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father and then the next of kin."
May we all show our compassion, love, and care to our mothers every single day from the depth of our hearts.
