Fredericksburg Fire Department To Host Free Open House (patch.com) — Families in Fredericksburg can get an inside look at local fire and rescue work when the Fredericksburg Fire Department hosts a free open house at Fire Station 1 on Sunday, Oct. 11. Visitors will see firefighting and fire extinguisher demonstrations, explore fire engines, ladder trucks and ambulances, and learn about water rescue and dive team operations in a hands-on, all-ages setting.

Explainer: Preventing teen violence in the City of Fredericksburg (fredericksburgfreepress.com) — Fredericksburg officials have released a 113-page Youth Violence Prevention Plan that highlights school safety concerns, chronic absenteeism, and a lack of activities and coordination for local teens. The report outlines eight key observations, 13 recommendations, and a five‑year roadmap, with a joint City Council–School Board work session set for Oct. 27 to decide next steps.
   

3. EEOC Sues Walmart for Disability Discrimination (crweworld.com) — A federal lawsuit claims a Fredericksburg Walmart violated disability law by failing to provide a sign language interpreter for a deaf stocker during daily staff meetings, even after repeated requests and state guidance on video interpreting. The EEOC is suing in federal court, seeking remedies under the Americans with Disabilities Act that could affect how local employers handle accommodations.
   

4. Across the region, early voting is up compared to last midterm elections (fredericksburgfreepress.com) — Early voting is running ahead of 2022 levels across the Fredericksburg region, including the city itself, where 902 people have already cast ballots. Caroline, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George counties are also seeing big increases as residents choose between Democrat Eugene Vindman and Republican Doug Ollivant in the 7th Congressional District race.
