83-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck, Killed On I-95 In Stafford County: Police

An 83-year-old man died on Wednesday when he was struck by a car on I-95 in Stafford. Police are investigating why the man was on the road.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — An 83-year-old man from Quebec died on Wednesday when he was struck by a car on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia State Police said. Authorities are still investigating why the man was in the roadway.

Authorities identified the man as 83-year-old Yvan Jubinville from Maskinonge, Quebec.

The crash occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Virginia State Police. A 2015 Kia Sorento was travelling northbound on Interstate 95 near mile marker 136 when it struck a pedestrian who was in the travel lanes, police said.

"The Kia was unable to avoid striking the man," state police officials wrote in a report on Friday. Authorities said that Jubinville died at the scene of the crash as a result of his injuries.

Virginia State Police noted that Jubinville's remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas for an autopsy and examination.

The driver of the Kia, a 54-year-old woman from Stafford, was uninjured in the crash.

Virginia State Police is still investigating the crash. They have not yet determined why the man was in the roadway prior to the crash.
