Pedestrian Struck In Stafford, Driver Arrested: Police

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A pedestrian was hit by a car in Stafford County on Tuesday night, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities claimed that the driver, John Barr Jr., hit the pedestrian after an argument.

The pedestrian, who police identified as a 56-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were considered serious, but not life-threatening.

Authorities received the report for a pedestrian hit by a car at 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31. The incident occurred outside of the Stafford Self Storage on Jefferson Davis Highway.

"Upon arrival, deputies located the 56-year-old male victim," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "The driver, John Barr Jr., 42, of Stafford, remained on scene."

Through an investigation, authorities determined that Barr was exiting the area when the victim approached him. The sheriff's office said the two men started to argue with each other before the victim walked away.

"As the victim crossed in front of Barr’s vehicle, he turned towards the victim, striking him with the passenger side of the vehicle," the sheriff's office said. "Barr then exited the vehicle and began gesturing at the victim as he laid on the ground."

Authorities also noted that Barr and the victim did not know each other before their encounter on Tuesday. Barr was arrested and charged with one count of malicious wounding. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
