Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Suspect In Deadly Apartment Shooting

The suspect was charged with the murder of Jamil Washington of Fredericksburg and the shooting of another person who survived.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Police Department arrested a suspect Monday in a weekend shooting that left one person dead and another person injured. The suspect, Darian Lamar Wilhoit Jones, 19, of Stafford County was arrested on felony charges of capital murder, attempted capital murder, attempted robbery, and use of a firearm in a commission of a felony.

Wilhoit Jones is currently being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center without bond. In its Dec. 16 statement, the Fredericksburg police thanked the Prince William County Police Department for its assistance with the investigation. Police said the investigation into the double shooting is still active and ongoing.

The shootings occurred in an apartment around 9 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the 1200 block of Kenmore Avenue in Fredericksburg. Police responded to the report of gunshots in the apartment and found 34-year-old Jamil Washington of Fredericksburg, who died at the scene, and the other victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital where he received medical attention and was released Sunday morning.
