Recount Likely In Stafford Supervisor Race: Report

In the Griffis–Widewater District supervisor race, newcomer Tinesha Allen beat incumbent Jack Cavalier by only 18 votes.

STAFFORD, VA — After newcomer Tinesha Allen narrowly defeated incumbent Jack Cavalier in the Griffis–Widewater District supervisor race, a recount is likely around the corner, according to a report.

Out of 4,200 votes cast, Allen beat Cavalier by a mere 18 votes, a difference of 0.42 percent. Cavalier said a recount is needed due to ballot problems reported by some voters, the Free Lance-Star reported.

To conduct a recount, Cavalier would be required to file a petition for one with Stafford’s Circuit Court. This can only be done once the Virginia Department of Elections certifies vote totals by Nov. 12. Within seven days of filing, a judge would call for a preliminary hearing and set the rules for the recount.
