Skinnydipping Man Avoids Police

A woman fishing on the Rappahannock River off Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg told police on Aug. 31 that a tall and skinny bald guy disrobed and jumped in the river for a few minutes before leaving on a trail.

The incident happened at 5 p.m. in the 3200 block of Fall Hill Avenue. The woman said the man was in the river for a few minutes befor he got out, put his clothes back on and slid a backpack over his shoulder while he returned to the walking trail. The suspect was described as a tall, slender, bald white male.

Child abuse:

100 block of Greystone Court, Aug. 30 5:40 p.m. Police responded to assist the Department of Social Services with a report of possible child abuse after two children, a 4-year-old female and a 2-year-old female, were taken to the hospital with burns to their hands. The older child was treated for her injuries and released but the younger child required transfer to the VCU Burn Unit. The investigation revealed that the children were burned with hot water while in the care of their mother’s boyfriend. Demarco Singleton, 19, of Fredericksburg was arrested on two counts of felony child abuse/neglect and incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. The investigation is ongoing.

Burglary:

Sonshine Daycare, 2301 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Sunday – Monday 3:40 p.m. The director reported that she found the back door pried open and damage done to the door jamb. It did not appear that anything was stolen from inside the business. The investigation is ongoing.

Larceny:

ABC Store, 1416 Carl D Silver Pkwy., Aug. 31 4:30 p.m. A manager reported that a young white male stole a bottle of liquor by concealing it down his pants. The investigation is ongoing.

300 block of Maple Court, Aug. 31 – Sept. 1 7 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown person shattered the driver’s side mirror on his vehicle and stole a license plate. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

100 block of Princess Anne Start, Sunday 8:15 p.m. A Spotsylvania resident reported that his iPad was stolen while he was giving a ride to some acquaintances. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

500 block of Fauquier Street, Monday 12:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. A resident reported that her bicycle was stolen from beneath her front porch. An officer later found the bicycle abandoned in the 400 block of Charles Street and it was returned to its owner. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

AT&T, 1601 Carl D Silver Pkwy., Sept. 3 4:25 p.m. A manager reported that a male subject stole two cell phones from the display area. The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s with short curly hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black V-neck shirt, khaki pants, and black shoes. The investigation is ongoing.
