Stafford County Sheriff Announces Retirement

Charles Jett stepping down after serving in top post since 1999.

Stafford County Sheriff Charles E. Jett announced Tuesday that he will resign at the end of his term in December.

“The highlight of my career has been the opportunity to work with some of the most selfless, courageous and dedicated men and women anywhere,” Jett said in his announcement, posted on the website of the Stafford Sheriff’s Office. “I am proud of the work that we have accomplished as a team and equally proud of the service that that team has provided to the citizens of Stafford County.”

Jett’s career in law enforcement spans 37 years, and he was elected in 1999 as the county sheriff, according to the sheriff’s office website. He leads a department of more than 240 personnel.

Among other activities, he has served as president of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, chairman of the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, and state chair for Special Olympics Virginia. Jett is married, and he and his wife Ann have two sons, Steven and David.
