Suspended Student Brought A Gun To Walker Grant Middle School: Police

A 15-year-old student was arrested on Thursday after he brought a gun and loaded magazines to a Fredericksburg middle school, police said.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 15-year-old student brought a gun and two loaded magazines to Walker Grant Middle School in Fredericksburg on Thursday, according to the police department. Police officers took the boy into custody and charged him with possession of a firearm on school property and larceny of a firearm.

"Investigators are confident the student did not intend to use the firearm to hurt anyone," the police department said on Thursday. Authorities also said the boy had previously been suspended from the school.

Police officers were called to the school on Learning Lane in Fredericksburg around 7:40 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities said that the suspended student trespassed on school property.

While administrators were speaking with the student, they received a tip that said he may be in possession of a firearm. Authorities searched the student and found an unloaded pistol, two loaded magazines, and an unloaded magazine.

The boy was taken to the Fredericksburg Police Department where he was charged. He was then taken to the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.

"Thanks to the collaboration between the school administration and the police department, we are fortunate this incident was resolved quickly and safely,” Police Chief Brian Layton said in a news release. “The safety of our youth will always be a top priority to the Fredericksburg Police Department.”
