Threat At Conway Elementary School Leads To Charges For Fredericksburg Man: Police

A man from Fredericksburg faces an attempted terrorism charge after threatening a Stafford elementary school, police claimed.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Threats at Conway Elementary School led to charges for a Fredericksburg man, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said this week.

Police identified the man as 34-year-old James Wayne Hash of Fredericksburg. Hash is charged with threats to bomb and attempted act of terrorism.

He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On Sept. 7, the sheriff's office learned of a threat to Conway Elementary School. Authorities said a nearby law enforcement agency received a call that threatened "general harm" to the school.

The school was locked down, but police determined that the threat was not credible. The sheriff's office believed the threat was a "robocall swatting attempt."

Swatting is a phenomenon that originated among online gamers. It involves falsely reporting a serious or violent crime in an effort to draw a large police response against an unsuspecting person.
