Turkey Trot Returns to Downtown Fredericksburg Nov. 27
The race this year includes one-mile and half-mile races for children in addition to the traditional 5K.

Fredericksburg’s annual YMCA Turkey Trot returns to downtown Fredericksburg this year after two years in Central Park.
To address the overcrowding issue that originally prompted race organizers to move to Central Park, this year’s race will be run in four or five waves of 800 to 1000 people.
Participants can fill out a registration form. The race costs $27 each, or $25 each for families of three or more. Race day registration costs $30 each and will only be accepted until 8:30 a.m.

Up to 4300 people can register for the event, which begins Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 27. at James Monroe High School and includes a one-mile and a half-mile race for kids. Shorter races for children start at 7 a.m. and the first wave of the 5K race starts at 9:05 a.m.
So far, 636 people have registered for the 5K race, which is fewer than previous years, fredericksburg.com reports. Race officials aren’t concerned, however, and say they often get a rush of signups closer to Thanksgiving.

The location change should be welcome news to hundreds who have protested the Central Park race by running in the Rouge Turkey Trot hosted by Fredericksburg resident Rabah Sbitahi in an effort to keep the downtown tradition, where the Turkey Trot was held for 19 years.
