STAFFORD, VA — A man and woman from Fredericksburg were arrested on numerous charges last weekend after leading police on a high-speed car chase during which the driver attempted to hit a Stafford County deputy with his car. Police arrested driver Daryl Hatfield Jr., 31, and passenger Brandi Abbott, 20, following the Oct. 25 chase.

According to a sheriff's report, a deputy was responding to a report of reckless driving on Jefferson Davis Highway in the area of Hospital Center Boulevard. After locating the car, the deputy attempted to stop it, but the driver continued without stopping.

According to the report, the driver — later identified as Hatfield — was driving erratically and repeatedly crossing the white and yellow lines in the median. Hatfield eventually pulled over in the area of Sage Lane, officials said, but when ordered to get out of his vehicle, he made a U-turn and fled northbound on Jefferson Davis Highway.

At a high rate of speed, the deputies continued to pursue Hatfield, who hit another vehicle in the area of Bells Hill Road. After again fleeing deputies, Hatfield struck several parked cars on Cork Street before the car came to a complete stop, officials said.
