TX Man Arrested For Shooting Domestic Partner In Spotsylvania After Traveling 1,400 Miles
Texas man faces charges including aggravated malicious shooting after a targeted attack in Spotsylvania County.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A Texas man is in custody and awaiting extradition after allegedly traveling to Virginia to shoot a woman with whom he had a prior relationship, authorities said.
Freddie Cruz Rodriguez, 39, of Killeen, Texas, was apprehended by local police in his home state following a multi-agency investigation into the April 2 shooting.
Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire near Magnolia Place and Daffodil Drive at approximately 8:53 p.m. On-site, investigators discovered several spent shell casings and determined that a 32-year-old woman had been struck by a round while inside a nearby residence.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, sustained a non-life-threatening wound. She was treated by Spotsylvania Fire Rescue and transported to a medical facility.
Investigators identified Rodriguez as the primary suspect after local residents provided firsthand accounts and surveillance footage of the area.

According to investigators, Rodriguez drove from Killeen to Spotsylvania with the "intent to kill" the victim. Following the shooting, he fled the state and returned to Texas.
Working in coordination with the Killeen Police Department, Virginia detectives tracked Rodriguez back to Texas, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Rodriguez has been charged with:
- Aggravated malicious shooting
- Stalking
- Shooting a missile at an occupied dwelling
- Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Reckless handling of a firearm
The suspect remains in Texas pending extradition proceedings to return him to Virginia to face the charges.
