Goimarac Named as CAC POY for Second Time in Career

YORK, Pa. - Mary Washington senior Courtney Goimarac (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) completed her tennis career with a clean sweep of CAC awards, earning her fourth-straight All-CAC singles award, fourth-straight All-CAC doubles award and her second Player of the Year award to go along with her 2008 Rookie of the Year award. She also led UMW to four-straight conference championships.

Goimarac brings the Player of the Year trophy back to Fredericksburg, Va., for the eighth-straight year and the 19th-time in the 21-year history of CAC women's tennis. She is the 14th different Eagle to win the award and the fourth UMW player to win the Player of the Year award at least twice in her career. Goimarac is one of six UMW players to win both the Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year awards during their careers.

Starting her UMW career in a similar fashion as Goimarac is Eagles freshman Lindsay Raulston (Franklin, Va./Southampton Academy), who was selected by the conference coaches as a first-team singles and doubles all star as well as the 2011 CAC Rookie of the Year. It is the fifth time in the last six years, and 10th time since the award was added in 1997, that an Eagle newcomer was picked by the conference coaches as the Rookie of the Year.

Goimarac and Raulston, along with Patrick Catullo, who was selected by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the sixth-straight season, led a group of nine Eagles onto the 2011 All-CAC women's tennis squad. Catullo, who guided UMW to its eighth-straight CAC crown (and 19th in CAC history), is one of three Eagle coaches to be honored by his peers along with Dr. Edward Hegmann (eight times from 1991 to 1999) and Cindy Vander Berg (three times from 2000 to 2004).

Joining Goimarac and Raulston on both the All-CAC singles and doubles first teams are senior Megan Lawlor (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and junior Michelle Meadows(Virginia Beach, Va./Collegiate). Both were repeat selections on the first-team all-star squad.

UMW sophomore Cassandra Bowman (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) was selected by the CAC coaches as a second-team singles and doubles all-star for the first time in her career. Classmate Catherine Malcolm (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) earns second-team singles recognition for the second-straight year while freshman Lauren Gaspar (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) is a first-time second-team all-star. Bowman's doubles partner, junior Jocelyn Lewis (Oakton, Va./Oakcrest), also gained second-team recognition.
