UMW Men's Soccer Falls to York in CAC Semifinals
Eagles finish the year 7-7-3 after falling to the Spartans 3-0 Wednesday at the Battleground.

For the second straight year, the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team saw its season end with a shutout loss to York College in the CAC semifinals. Wednesday afternoon the second-seeded Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision to the Spartans at the Battleground.
After playing scoreless soccer for the first 35 minutes, York scored its first goal at 36:43. The Spartans added two quick tallies after the break at the 50' and 57' marks respectively to put the game out of reach. UMW had a great chance to steal the early lead after sophomore midfielder Tommy Sangbouasy set up a chance with some nifty dribbling, but a defensive save turned away his shot.
"I think the guys fought," said UMW head coach Jason Kilby after the game. "I just don't think several guys were at their top performance."

Despite Wednesday's loss, the Eagles saw renewed success in Kilby's first season at the helm. UMW finished the year with a conference record of 5-1-2, and took the second seed into the CAC tournament.
Coach Kilby reflected on the 2011 campaign fondly, saying, "It's been great. I enjoyed working with the players. They've worked hard. It's just tough to end on this, because it's definitely not one of our top performances. I thought the guys did well throughout the year."

Although the Eagles will lose six seniors to graduation in the spring, coach Kilby has a clear message about the future of the program.
"We'll be back."
