UMW President Hurley's Contract Extended to 2015

The board of visitors also named new members.

The 's board of visitors extended the contract of President Richard Hurley last week. His contract now will come up again on June 30, 2015.

Hurley is the university’s ninth president. He became president on July 1, 2010, after former president Judy Hample abruptly resigned after two years at the helm. She succeeded president William Frawley, who was fired by the university after two DUI arrests. Hurley served twice as the acting president when both left, and the board of visitors eventually made him the full-time official president in the sumer of 2010.

The board of visotors also named the Honorable Pamela J. White as rector of the 12 member board. White will succeed Daniel K. Steen. The board also named Holly T. Cuellar as vice rector and Xavier R. Richardson as secretary. White, Cuellar and Richardson will serve two-year terms from 2012 to 2014.

White is a 1974 alumna and a trial judge on the Circuit Court bench in Baltimore City, Md. Cuellar is a 1989 alumna and a political consultant who served in the Office of the Virginia Attorney General. Richardson is executive vice president of Corporate Development and Community Affairs for Mary Washington Healthcare and president of Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford foundations.
