Valuables Stolen from 10 Cars, 1 Car Stolen in Fredericksburg

More Fredericksburg residents have reported thefts from their vehicles this week. A string of thefts was also reported last week.

In total, at least 10 people had items stolen from their unlocked cars, including purses, cell phones, cash and iPods. One resident who left her keys inside her Prius, reported the car stolen twice this week.

Seven residents on Woodland and Keeneland Roads in the Westwood subdivision said an unknown person stole valuable items from their cars around 6:30 a.m. Nov. 24, according to Fredericksburg City police.

One resident on the 100 block of Woodland Road reported her Toyota Prius stolen on Sunday, Nov. 23, with the keys and her laptop inside. The Prius was found Monday afternoon in the parking lot of Monticello Apartments. The laptop was recovered from the car, but the keys were not, according to Fredericksburg police. The owner left the car at the apartment complex overnight and the next morning found it stolen again. The car was later found at the intersection of Century Oak Drive and Great Oaks Lane. Police towed the Prius to Police Headquarters for investigation.

Three residents on the 1700 block of Highland Road reported to police items stolen from their unlocked vehicles in the Westmont subdivision around 8 a.m. Nov. 24.

On the 1100 block of Hickory Court, residents reported two men tampering with vehicles in the Great Oaks subdivision around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. When officers responded to the area, they saw on of the men sitting on the hood of the stolen Toyota Prius. The man ran from the area with police chasing after him, Fredericksburg police said. Police officers searched for more than an hour, but could not find either suspect.

Police described both suspects as black men wearing dark clothing. One was tall and thin with a shaved head and the other was of average height with dreadlocks.

Fredericksburg City police assume all cases are related and are currently investigating the crimes.

Last week the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office began the Take It, Hide It, Lock It or Lose It campaign to encourage residents in the area to lock their car doors. Police say these types of crime are especially prevalent during the holidays as people tend to leave gifts in their cars.
