Carlisha Watkins walked into Art Mart during Nature Noise and showed us a few pieces from her House of Roots Series. We fell in love with her work and we asked her to come back and showcase with us. House of Roots consists of portraits of African American women embracing their natural hair and culture by utilizing Afrocentric styles. In 2013-2014 this series was showcased by Starry Night Artist Exposure Program for Art Basel Miami. Being the child of an active duty member of the United States Air Force, Carlisha traveled around the world. She lived in various states and countries such as Maryland, Colorado, Arizona, the Philippines and Portugal. She studied photography and visual arts at Visual Arts Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
We are very excited to bring to FXBG some of the most beautiful art in the DMV.
