Weather Update: Tips for Driving as VDOT Prepares for Snow

Trucks are out pre-treating the roads, so motorists should expect delays.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews in trucks are preparing for another winter storm by pre-treating Interstate 95 and primary routes in the Fredericksburg area.

VDOT says motorists should expect delays due to the slow-moving vehicles, which are applying a salt brine anti-icing solution. Anti-icing prevents ice from bonding to the pavement during inclement weather, which reduces the risk of hazardous travel conditions.

Once the snow begins, crews will continue to work around the clock in 12-hour shifts until conditions improve, VDOT said in a statement.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor news and weather reports for the latest forecasts and road conditions. Before starting a trip, motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time road conditions in any area of the state.
