2nd Degree Murder Charge Filed Against Herndon Man: Updated

Herndon Police Department charged a 24-year-old Herndon man with second degree murder in connection with the death of an unnamed man.

HERNDON, VA — Town of Herndon Police charged a Herndon man Monday with second-degree Murder in connection with the death of a man at a town residence, according to a police release.

Officers were dispatched around 4:40 p.m., on Sunday in response to a request for a welfare check for Nathaniel Haldenstein, 24, in the 100 block of Laurel Way.

"Officers responded and were able to talk their way into the home," said Lisa Herndon, an HPD spokeswoman. "Things seemed to be OK. Got a second call a little bit later."

Officers returned to the residence around 7:30 p.m., after another call led to a second follow-up welfare check.

"While speaking with Haldenstein, he made comments that prompted officers to check on of the bedrooms, where officers discovered one male victim deceased," a police release said.

Haldenstein was taken to Reston Hospital Center and treated for minor injuries, according to Herndon. Police then took the person back to police headquarters, where they were interviewed.

Once the interview was finished, police transported Haldenstein to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with second degree murder. He is currently being held without bond.

This case is the second homicide investigation in Herndon this year, and the victim is the fourth person in Herndon to die by homicide in 2021.
