Updated 4:15 p.m. with information about the identify of the motorcycle rider.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County Police identified the person killed overnight in a motorcycle crash on Route 28 near Herndon as 22-year-old Donald Baker of Sterling, according to a police release.

Officers responded just before midnight on Thursday for the report of a motorcycle crash on northbound Route 28 near the McLearen Road exit. A preliminary investigation by the Crash Reconstruction unit determined that Baker was traveling on northbound Route 28 on a 2021 Suzuki GSXR 10004 when he accelerated and lost control. The motorcycle veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail, throwing Baker off the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. No evidence has been found at this time indicting whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
