$100K Top Prize From Virginia Lottery Won By Herndon Man

HERNDON, VA — Arnoldo Sanchez's recent decision to stop for a drink on the way to work and purchase a few Virginia Lottery turned out to be a smart think to do. One of the scratch off tickets turned out to be worth $100,000.

When the Herndon resident scratched his tickets at the 7-Eleven at 22405 Flagstaff Plaza in Ashburn, he discovered he'd won the the top prize in Virginia Lottery’s 10X the Money scratcher game.

“I was confused. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!” the construction worker from Herndon told lottery officials when he redeemed his prize recently. He plans to use the $100,000 to take care of his family.

Sanchez won the fifth top prize claimed in the 10X the Money game, which means that seven others remain unclaimed, according to the Virginia Lottery.

In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery has generated over $868 million for K-12 education, which is about 10 percent of the state's K-12 budget. Fairfax County, where Sanchez lives, received more than $48.5 million from the lottery in the last fiscal year.
