Through their investigations, police determined that Eure-Lewis was last seen leaving her residence with her husband around 9:40 a.m., on Sunday. The vehicle they were seen traveling in was recovered by police in Hampton on Monday afternoon. Police transitioned to a homicide investigation based on evidence they recovered while processing the vehicle, according to the release.

At 10:45 p.m., on Monday, CBP officers and HSI agents stopped Lewis at a Dulles Airport departure gate as he was about to board a flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica. He was wanted by authorities for questioning about the whereabouts of his wife, according to the release. After returning Lewis to the CBP's inspection station, officials placed him in a detention cell.

Shortly before noon on Tuesday, CBP officers and HSI agents searched Lewis' baggage and discovered his wife's passport and credit cards, police say.

Newport News detectives arrived at Dulles Airport around 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday. After they were briefed about the contents of Lewis' baggage, the detectives served him with an arrest warrant for first degree murder and escorted him out of the airport.

“This case illustrates how Customs and Border Protection officers and Homeland Security Investigations agents collaborate with our law enforcement partners to catch allegedly dangerous fugitives and return them to stand for their charges,” said Daniel Escobedo, area port director for CBP’s Area Port of Washington, D.C., in a release. “Arresting fugitives is one way win which CBP uses our border security authority to support our partners in seeking justice for victims and to help keep our communities safe.”
