2 Herndon Companies Receive $100K VA Grants For Technology Work

HERNDON, VA — Two Herndon companies were among the 34 small technology-focused, Virginia-based businesses to receive Commonwealth Commercialization Fund grants recently to help commercialize research they are developing, according to a release.

“Facilitating research breakthroughs and getting new technologies out of the lab and into the hands of consumers is key to driving economic growth and creating jobs in the Commonwealth,” Gov. Ralph Northam said, in a release. “I am confident this first round of CCF awards will produce far-reaching benefits and congratulate these innovators and entrepreneurs on their success in developing transformative solutions to improve lives and address some of the most pressing challenges we face.”

Totaling $3.4 million, the grants were developed through the Virginia Innovation Partnership Authority (VIPA), to commercialize research in a number of sectors, including agricultural and environmental technologies, autonomous systems, clean energy, cybersecurity, and data analytics, among others.

Jin Chun, the chief technology officer for AtWork Systems, Inc. of Herndon, was awarded a $100,000 grant to commercialize cybersecurity assessment tools for SaaS platform.

Ben Gerenstein, CEO of Herndon cybersecurity firm Rimstorm Inc., also received a $100,000 grant. Rimstorm is developing a cybersecurity maturity model certification enclave for Defense Department contractors.
