Why are you seeking elective office?
To set Herndon on a new course focusing on Transparent Government, Neighborhood Enhancement, Building a Town for Excellence and Vibrancy, Increase in Government Efficiency & Effectiveness, and providing excellent constituent service
The single most pressing issue facing the Town of Herndon is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The delay and cost of the Downtown Development and "the bleeding" by the developer is the most pressing issue. The current loss of $33 million (and its effect on property taxes, water & sewer bills, resurfacing of our streets and roads, etc.) will trump all other issues that the Town faces today and will face in the future. I intend to make all related documents public within 10 days after the inauguration, conduct legal, administrative and economic review of the project and present the results to the public and hold extensive discussions before deciding upon the future course (s) of action.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The distinguishing factors include: (1) application of engineering, economics, municipal finance, and quantitative analysis to all aspects of municipal government management (2) Reducing the burden of cumbersome and expensive Federal regulations on small businesses, (3) Experience in Federal Environmental & Energy programs; (4) analyses of numerous Herndon's policy and programs; (5) Financial analyses of the Downtown Development Project (6) dedication to transparent government & (7) my focus on matters of public interest. I have the right qualifications, experience and attitude for public service.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)?
The current mayor has participated in the $43 million "give aways" to the downtown developer and kept the community in the dark by withholding relevant documents for more than 10 years. This behavior, on the part of the mayor and some of the councilmembers has encouraged the developer to delay the downtown development project. The mayor also did not object to the increase in height of the development from about 35' to about 65' in 2012 and to the developer's to build a 300-apartment complex.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
(1) Nimble Government (2) Transparent Government; (3) Neighborhood Enhancement; (4) Build Town for Excellence & Vibrancy
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Management of my consulting company (Policy Planning & Evaluation, Inc) which at one stage employed 25 people, Working successfully with Senior Federal and State officials for over 30 years, providing Quantitative Analysis Services to the Federal government; providing Penalty/Ability-to-Pay services in about 50 Federal environment enforcement cases; Testifying in Federal Courts and providing Equitable Cost Allocation services in Superfund cases. Finally, the experience gained during my three terms will contribute greatly to my success as Mayor.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
focus on creating free markets whenever possible
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I was an avid sportsman in college, believe in public interest
