Fire Displaces 2 People And Causes $25K In Damage To Herndon Home Early Sunday

HERNDON, VA — A fire at a two-story, single-family home in Herndon displaced two people and caused about $25,000 in damage early Sunday morning, according to Fairfax County fire inspectors. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and the result of an electrical event in the wiring of an electric panel box.

Units from Fairfax and Loudoun counties responded around 12:38 a.m., on Sunday for the report of a house fire in the 1700 block of Whitewood Lane in the Herndon part of Fairfax County.

Smoke was visible from the front of the home and fire personnel located the fire in the home's basement. They were able to bring the blaze under control quickly, according to a post on the fire department's blog.

The three occupants of the home called 911, after hearing popping sounds and noticing flickering lights. They then exited the home safely. No injuries were reported.

The fire displaced two occupants. The Red Cross offered assistance, but it was declined.
