7 Inches Of Rain In Herndon On Friday? Weather Model Says It's Possible

A weather model suggests that Herndon is about get dumped on big time, but forecasters warn that a lot could change.

HERNDON, VA — Brace yourselves for a monsoon, Herndon residents: one weather model is calling for nearly 7 inches of rain in western Fairfax County, including the Reston and Herndon areas.

The Capital Weather Gang cautions that there's still time for this to change and while it seems likely the D.C. region is going to get a downpour on Friday and Saturday, the question is whether the heaviest rain will fall.

One model from WeatherBELL.com shows an intense band of rain hitting Washington, D.C., the Maryland suburbs, and a good portion of Northern Virginia, dropping around 5-6 inches of rain. But the most intense spot appears to be directly over Reston and Herndon, and it is in the range of 6.8 inches.

The weather forecast indicates you can say goodbye to the sun until Sunday, appropriately enough. Thursday is projected to be cloudy with a 20 percent change of precipitation rolling into a stormy Friday and then a rainy -- albeit less so -- Saturday.

It'll be warm Thursday, with a high of 88 degrees, but the storms will cool things down into the 70s Friday and Saturday.

After the storm clears, we should have a full week of sunny weather with highs in the upper 80s.
