Accused W&O Trail Attacker Charged With 3 Counts Of Indecent Exposure
Fairfax County Police have charged a Herndon man they say is responsible for a string of attacks and indecent exposures on the W&OD Trail.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County Police have charged a 42-year-old Herndon man they say is responsible for a string of attacks and indecent exposures on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail.
Detectives arrested Juan Alfaro Rodriguez on Thursday for warrants from another state. Further investigation led authorities to charge him with three counts of indecent exposure, Fairfax Police said Saturday.
Alfaro Rodriguez was taken to the Adult Detention Center and remains held without bond.

Fairfax County Police believe Alfaro Rodriguez is responsible for a string of attacks since the beginning of August on the W&OD Trail near the Reston/Herndon border.

The most recent attack occurred around 9:48 p.m. Aug. 30 in Reston. A man grabbed a teenage girl as she was walking along the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Old Reston Avenue. The girl was able to break free and the man ran off.
The other incidents, including one in the Town of Herndon, occurred on Aug. 3, 15, and 18.
"We're here today to ask your help and identifying this man," said Sgt. Tara Gerhard, an FCPD public information officer, during a news conference Sept. 1 near the trail in Reston.
Police obtained a photo of the suspected attacker from a Herndon resident's surveillance camera. FCPD also released the full video of the incident.
Gerhard last month asked the public to notify police if they recognize the man, and to check their own surveillance cameras to see if there are any other images available.
"We do believe he is connected to our incidents from the last few weeks," Gerhard said. "We're actually even going back to previous cases to determine if any of those incidents are related as well."
Detectives are continuing to review evidence to confirm Alfaro Rodriguez’s involvement in other cases. Anyone with information about this case or others that may be related can contact detectives at 703-246-7800, option 3.
Area residents are asked to review home surveillance for any suspicious activity.
