Herndon Elementary celebrates Cheryl McGovern as Herndon Elementary’s Dulles Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year.
One of the great honors I have as principal is recognizing the accomplishments of teachers. The Dulles Area Chamber of Commerce asked each principal in the area to nominate a Teacher of the Year from our respective schools. After gathering input from the Herndon Elementary Staff I have selected Cheryl McGovern for this honor to represent our school. Ms. McGovern supports the learning of all students. Mrs. Breitbach, Reading Specialist, commented, “She sets extremely high learning goals for all students and demonstrates a sense of urgency in getting students to reach those standards. She incorporates multiple modalities in to learning and includes sign language in her lessons. She is a model for her colleagues and has frequent visitors from other schools to see her classroom.” In the words of her teammate, Charlotte Orlando, “The combination of her dedication to her colleagues, her school, and her students is really what makes Cheryl stand out to me. I’m so happy to be teaching on a team led by Cheryl and believe that she is deserving of this award.”
It is my honor as principal to honor Cheryl as Herndon Elementary’s Teacher of the Year.
