Assault Charge Filed Against DC Man In Herndon Armed Robbery

HERNDON, VA — A man wanted by the Herndon Police Department in connection with a February armed robbery is now in police custody, according to the weekly crime report.

On Feb. 21, an unknown man approached some people who were in the 1200 block of Springtide Place. The man pointed a gun and demanded money from the victims. He then assaulted one of them before fleeing with another victim's purse.

Metropolitan Police Department arrested Michael Donnell Sanders, 26, of Washington, D.C., charging him with armed robbery and malicious wounding. Sanders was transported from the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where he was held on HPD warrants. Later, he was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.

Between Aug. 9-15, Town of Herndon police officers issued 139 traffic summonses, including three for driving while intoxicated, 1o for driving with no operator's license, two for driving on a suspended or revoked license and seven for operating a vehicle while holding a phone.

There were four reportable traffic accidents in Herndon. Virginia State Police define "reportable crashes" as those that result in $1,500 in property damage and/or injury.
