Assistance League Program Helps Kids Avoid Weekend Hunger
Weekend Food for Kids Fills Need When School Meals Not Available

Assistance League of Northern Virginia (ALNV) recently held their monthly Weekend Food For Kids (WFFK) packing event. WFFK provides bags of non-perishable food to children receiving free or reduced meals at 6 Title 1 elementary schools in Northern Virginia. The schools distribute the bags to the children on Fridays so they can be taken home to help alleviate food insecurity over the weekend. Monthly packings are held at Dominion Energy, who partners with ALNV for this amazing program. Their support in helping to pack the 1900 bags of food, and then delivering the bags to the 6 Title 1 elementary schools, is monumental.
In addition to the volunteers from Dominion Energy, participating in this month’s WFFK packing event were volunteers from Nativity Parish, Springfield Golf and Country Club and Hassinger/Armm Associates. It’s always a fun time of laughter, friendship and music when we gather to pack food for children in need.
