Best Elementary Schools in Virginia 2017: 4 Herndon Schools Make Niche's Top 100

Floris Elementary School was Herndon's highest rated school on the list, placing at No. 28.

HERNDON, VA — Niche.com's 2017 rankings of Virginia's elementary schools are out, and four Herndon schools have scored spots in the top 100.

The school rating site and directory ranked Floris Elementary School at No. 28, Oak Hill Elementary School at No. 29, Crossfield Elementary School at No. 56, and Fox Mill Elementary School at No. 81.

Niche chose Arlington Traditional Elementary School as the No. 1 elementary school in Virginia.

"The 2017 Best Public Elementary Schools ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education," Niche states on their website. "Ranking factors include state test scores, student-teacher ratio, student diversity, teacher quality, grade school ratings, and the overall quality of the school district."

Academics were weighted the heaviest among the criteria, making up for 50 percent of the overall grade. The district overall Niche grade is weighted at 20 percent, and it is based on a "rigorous analysis of academic and student life data along with millions of reviews from students and parents," Niche states.

Another 20 percent goes to the "teachers grade" factor, which is based on salary, teacher absenteeism, state test results and survey responses. The remaining 10 percent is for culture and diversity, which is based on racial and economic diversity, as well as survey responses.
