Bill To Move Town Elections From May to November Dies in Va. Legislature: Media Report
Legislation is supported by Town Council, but opposed by former mayor.

A bill to move Town Council elections in Herndon from May to November has effectively died in the Virginia General Assembly, according to a media report.
The bill passed the state Senate unanimously in January, but it was sent back to a House committee Wednesday just before the full House of Delegates was supposed to vote on it. The move killed the bill’s chances to be passed this year, according to the Washington Post.

Herndon Mayor Lisa Merkel said the Town Council favored moving town elections from May to the general elections in November, when voters cast ballots in congressional and statewide races.
But Del. Thomas Rust, R-Fairfax, a former mayor of Herndon, said he opposed the bill because he believed that town residents would lose track of the local nonpartisan races amid the hubbub generated by races for Congress, governor and other high-profile offices.
