2012 Jewish Calendar

The word "Chabad" is a Hebrew acronym for the three intellectual faculties of: chachmah-wisdom, binah-comprehension and da'at-knowledge.

One man asked another, “When is Channukah this year?” The other man smiled slyly and replied, “Same as always: the 25th of Kislev.” This humorous comment makes an important point: the date of Jewish Holidays does not change from year to year. Holidays are celebrated on the same day of the Jewish calendar every year, but the Jewish year is not the same length as a solar year on the Gregorian calendar used by most of the western world, so the date shifts on the Gregorian calendar.

Last year I wrote an article about the seasons of the Christian Church. This year I received a link from Chabad Jewish Center to the 2012 Jewish Holidays. I thought many would enjoy knowing the sequence of the Jewish Holidays throughout the year. Please see calendar below with a link to Chabad Jewish Center of Reston - Herndon.

The Chabad Jewish Center of Reston - Herndon was founded with an over-arching vision. Although Jews may embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for all Jews - no labels, no affiliations - to develop a sense of community, to enhance the experience of being Jewish, to learn and to have fun. With tolerance, sincerity and deeply rooted values, Chabad can help you find that Jewish Center in your heart. Everyone is welcome to participate in an exciting voyage - to discover our rich heritage.

Philosophy:

The word “Chabad” is a Hebrew acronym for the three intellectual faculties of: chachmah-wisdom, binah-comprehension and da’at-knowledge. The movement’s system of Jewish religious philosophy teaches understanding and recognition of the Creator, the role and purpose of Creation, and the importance and unique mission of each Creation. This philosophy guides a person to refine and govern his and her every act and feeling through wisdom, comprehension and knowledge. For more information, go to http://www.chabadrh.org.
