A Holiday Tradition with a Purpose

Each November and December, Scout Troop 157’s annual Christmas Tree Sale brings holiday cheer to our community while supporting the troop’s activities and service projects. For many local families, picking out a tree from the lot at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Sterling Road in Herndon is a cherished tradition—and a way to support the next generation of community leaders.

Challenges Threaten This Year's Fundraiser

In previous years, the tree stand would be empty this week as the inventory always sold out ahead of Christmas. This year, Troop 157 has faced some unexpected difficulties. With local household budgets stretched thin and the early winter bringing an extra chill, fewer neighbors have ventured over to the stand to buy Christmas trees. As a result, the scouts still have over 100 beautiful fraser firs waiting for a home.

To help these trees find a place in your holiday celebrations—and to keep the fundraiser afloat—Troop 157 is offering deep discounts on all remaining fraser firs. The goal right now for the troop is to simply break even and and not lose any money, so your purchase makes a real difference!

How You Can Help

Stop by the tree stand at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located on Sterling Road a block down from the intersection of Elden and Locust Streets. The stand is open:

  • Thursday: 6:00–8:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 6:00–8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM–6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1:00–6:00 p.m.

If you can’t make it during those times, no problem! You can call 571.306.3033 to have a scout meet you at the stand, or you can purchase one with cash at the church office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

After members of the community inquired about donations, the troop shared this link on social media: https://2025-christmas-tree-presale.square.site/product/online-donation/1.
