Updated: CNN Money Names Herndon Among "Best Places to Live"

Herndon has been named among CNN Money's "Best Places to Live" in its September 2011 issue.

The town of 24,800 comes in at number 34 out of 100 featured places, with a median income of $102,758; higher than the "Best Places" average of $99,975. The median home price is also lower than the "Best Places" average of $265,929, with Herndon's homes coming in at $240,000.

CNN Money says the town "provides a great base to explore the many jobs in the area. Herndon sits right near the so-called Dulles Technology Corridor, where companies such as AOL, Microsoft, and Verizon are big employers."

"Alternatively, residents can make the commute to Washington D.C., 22 miles away. The public schools here are a big draw for many: Newsweek consistently ranks Herndon High in the top 5% of the country."

Other interesting statistics CNN Money highlighted include the median age—31.2 years old, compared to a median of 36.35 for the "Best Places" average—and there are 3,469 restaurants within 15 miles. The average for the "Best Places" is 2,758.

In a press release from the Town of Herndon sent out Monday afternoon, Herndon Mayor Steve DeBenedittis said, "It’s gratifying to receive this national recognition—but certainly not surprising to those of us who live and work here."

"Our neighborhoods, our excellent public and private schools, the uniqueness of our downtown area and the friendliness of our people all are a testament to the quality of life here in Herndon," DeBenedittis said.
