DULLES, VA — More than 53.9 million passengers traveled through Reagan National and Dulles International airports in 2025. This figure broke the previous year’s record for the two-airport system. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced these numbers on Tuesday.

Significant growth in travelers at Dulles International Airport was enough to offset a slight decline in Reagan National passengers. Reagan National had a record-setting year in 2024. Dulles International was served by 46 airlines at the end of 2025, providing more than 340 daily departures to 164 destinations.

New airlines Royal Jordanian and Contour inaugurated nonstop Dulles service. Six new destinations joined the airport’s global lineup. United Airlines continued strong growth, referring to the current period as the “Decade of Dulles” due to its expansion plans at the airport.

Dulles set new records in 2025 for international passengers with 10.53 million and total passengers with 29.01 million. Much of the 6.4 percent rise in total passengers was due to a significant climb in domestic passengers arriving in Washington or connecting to other destinations.

In response to current and projected growth, Dulles will open a new 435,000-square-foot, 14-gate concourse this fall. This concourse will serve United customers. It will provide direct access to the airport train system and add more than 15 new shopping and dining locations. Further additions to the concourse have entered the design phase and are part of an overall master plan to expand and improve facilities airport-wide.

In 2025, 24.89 million passengers traveled through Reagan National Airport. This was a 5.3 percent decline from the 2024 record of 26.29 million passengers. Operations at Reagan National are mostly confined to one runway. They are governed by federal limits on the number of scheduled takeoffs and landings to control congestion.

The reduction of passenger activity is attributed to softening demand for government-related travel, effects from a 43-day federal shutdown, and the after-effects of the aircraft disaster in January that claimed 67 lives. Reagan National was served by eight airlines at the end of 2025, providing more than 400 daily departures to 108 destinations.
