Elden Street Bloom Location to Close; Centreville Road Location to Become Food Lion

Delhaize America is closing 126 grocery stores and converting 64 locations to Food Lion stores.

The Bloom grocery store at 1050 Elden Street will be closing, and the location 3059 Centreville Rd. will be rebranded as a Food Lion.

Delhaize America announced today that it would be closing 126 grocery stores, while switching another 64 to Food Lion grocery stores—a change that includes the two Herndon locations.

Stores that have been chosen to close will do so within 30 days, while stores chosen for conversion will begin the process immediately. About 4,900 employees will be “displaced” and the company will provide severance to those eligible, Delhaize America said in a press release.

Delhaize America said it is making these “key strategic actions to strengthen its U.S. portfolio.” The Bloom banner will be retired.

"Today's actions will continue to solidify our U.S. operations and enable our company to focus on our successful brand strategy repositioning at Food Lion and the expansion of Bottom Dollar Food in new markets," said Ron Hodge, CEO of Delhaize America, in a press release.

"While these were difficult decisions given the impact on our associates, customers and communities, we believe these actions will enable us to better serve our customers in our markets with high density, while positioning the company for future growth,” Hodge said.
