Franconia Police District – A man is in custody following a barricade situation that ended around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Officers were initially called to the 6400 block of Cheyenne Drive at 6:47 p.m. for the report of a man acting erratically. Mental health professionals from the Merrifield Crisis Response Center (MCRC) responded and obtained an Emergency Custody Order (ECO) for the man.
Officers attempted to contact him to serve the ECO and learned that he may be armed with a firearm. He acknowledged the officers but disregarded commands to surrender and barricaded himself in the condominium. Patrol officers contained the scene while crisis negotiators and tactical officers responded. The barricade was peacefully resolved when the man was taken into custody without any use of force. He is receiving a mental health evaluation at an area hospital.
