Fairfax SWAT Team Member Shoots, Kills Dog In Herndon: Police
A member of Fairfax County Police's SWAT team discharged their firearm Tuesday morning at a home in Herndon, killing a dog.

HERNDON, VA — A member of the Fairfax County Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics team shot and killed a dog Thursday morning in Herndon, according to a 7:35 a.m. post on the department's official Twitter account.
SWAT officers were in the 1500 block of Powells Tavern Place, serving a search warrant, when at least one officer discharged their firearm. A round struck a dog that was later declared deceased, according to police.
The search warrant originated from another jurisdiction and concerned the recovery of police equipment, according to the Twitter post. The equipment was recovered and a man was taken into custody.

FCPD's Internal Affairs Bureau responded to the scene to investigate the incident. No injuries were reported, according to police.
