Five Things To Know This Week

1. Starting today some downtown improvements will be made on Elden, Lynn, Station and Spring streets. Work will include the installation of a duct bank and will impact traffic on Elden Street between Monroe and Center streets, as well as traffic on Spring Street. There will be partial lane closures and temporary detours. Work will be completed sometime in December.
2. Tuesday is your last day to view the portraits featured in ArtSpace Herndon’s Expressions exhibit. More than 90 pieces are on display by artists from Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware. Featured artists include Jill Banks, Penny Hauffe, Pamela Jarrett, Derek McGowan, Susan Avis Murphy, and Aaron Pavelis, among many others. ArtSpace is closed Monday but will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, the last day of the exhibit.

Items on the agenda include amending the town’s business license tax to allow for longer exemptions for new businesses that move into the town, changing the speed limit on Spring Street and awarding a contract for a marketing and branding consultant for the town.
5. Nominate a neighbor, coworker, friend or community member as a “greatest person!” Patch’s Greatest Person series features people doing great things in the community. It could be through their job, their volunteer work, their hobbies or any number of things you think they should be recognized for. If you know someone who has a great story to tell or should be recognized for something they've done, send an email to Leslie@Patch.com.
